The Global Observed Rainfall image shows 24 hour precipitation totals for around the world. The precipitation imagery displays estimates in colorized contoured bands by interpreting the intensity levels of NOWrad mosaic radar into rainfall estimates each hour. These contour bands deliniate precipitation estimates using millimeters.

Precipitation Meteorology

In meteorology, precipitation is any product of the condensation of atmospheric water vapor that is deposited on the earth's surface. It occurs when the atmosphere becomes saturated with water vapour and the water condenses and falls out of solution (i.e., precipitates).
